Migrating Bookmarks from Chrome to Edge / Importing Bookmarks from Chrome into Edge as Favorites
This article provides instructions on the following:
- If you have never opened Microsoft Edge under the profile you are logged into Windows with: these instructions will show you how you can migrate your bookmarks from Chrome to Edge, where they will be found and called "Favorites". Jump to the heading below called "Migrating Bookmarks from Chrome to Edge".
- If you have opened Microsoft Edge under the profile you are logged into Windows with: these instructions will show you to import your bookmarks from Chrome to Edge, where they will be found and called "Favorites". Jump to the heading below called "Importing Bookmarks from Chrome into Edge as Favorites".
Migrating Bookmarks from Chrome to Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge for the first time by using the bottom-left Windows search bar to find and open it. You will see the following screen.
- Click "Sign in to sync data" and proceed to sign in with your profile's credentials and MFA, if prompted. You will land on this page afterwards.
- Click "Confirm and continue" and you will land on this page with the checkbox checked automatically. Leave it checked.
- Click "Confirm and continue" again and you will land on this page.
- Click "Finish" and you will be taken to this page. You can see that Edge has automatically created an "Other favorites" folder at the top-right. This is where your bookmarks from Chrome have been saved.
Importing Bookmarks from Chrome into Edge as Favorites
Note again: The following instructions are only for the case in which you have previously opened Edge and you now wish to import your Chrome bookmarks into it as "Favorites".
- Open Microsoft Edge. You can do so by using the bottom-left Windows search bar to find and open it.
- Find the "Favorites" button at the top-right, which looks like a shooting star, and click it.
- Click the three dots and then choose "Import favorites".
- You will be taken to the following page. Click on the "Import" button on the line that says "Import data from Google Chrome".
- In the "Import browser data" pop-up that comes up you can choose exactly what to import from Google Chrome. For the purpose of these instructions, you will want to make sure "Favorites or bookmarks" is checked. Everything else you can check on or off to your discretion. Then click the "Import" button.
- You will see a pop-up that says "All done! We've brought your data over". In the following image you can see that bookmarks have been brought over and have landed in the Favorites bar along the top of the browser. At this point you can click the "Done" button.
