Label Printer Troubleshooting
-
From the Windows search, type in Printers and then select Printers and Scanners.
-
Locate the printer you would like to check the settings for.
-
Click on the printer name, and then click on Manage.
- From your selected printer, click on Printing preferences.
- There are several settings to check when configuring a label printer.
- Note: Depending on the computer's firmware, the settings screens may look a little different. However, the same settings will apply.
- Page Setup:
-
- This is where you will enter the width and height of your labels.
-
-
- Different firmware may have the unit (in, cm, etc) listed separately. Be sure to verify the correct unit is selected if so.
-
-
- After the correct dimensions are entered, be sure to click Apply.
- Print Options:
-
- All printers are Direct Thermal.
- Once this option is selected, click Apply at the bottom.
- Graphic Options:
-
- Depending on the settings available, graphic options should either be none or if a slider, all the way to the right for Clipart.
-
- Once updated, click Apply at the bottom.
- Once all settings are correctly set, click OK, and you’re returned to the Manage your device window.
- Even though Apply and OK were clicked throughout the process, sometimes the settings won’t stick until you print a test page.
- From the Manage your device screen, open the print queue.
- Position the print queue behind and to the left of the Manage your device window.
-
- This will allow you to see the test page and verify it passes through the queue.
- From the Manage your device window, click on Print a test page to lock in your settings.
- A couple of notes:
-
- If your label settings are correct, and labels are still printing off the edge, there are two other items to check:
-
-
- Dutchie: Are the labels in Dutchie configured to the correct size?
-
-
-
-
- If the store has to switch label sizes, the size configured in Dutchie will also need to be updated.
-
-
-
-
- Does the printer need to be calibrated?
-
-
-
-
- You can google the model number of your printer to find step-by-step videos on how to calibrate it. Do note, the steps to calibrate do vary by model.
-
-
-
-
- Every printer will need the settings setup on the computer it is connected to. If printers are moved from POS to POS, it can change these settings. Also, if moved from POS to POS, the PrintNode id will be different and the printer won’t print from Dutchie until the PrintNode settings are corrected.
-
-
-
-
- It is recommended to not move the printer between POS stations.
- If the printer is not printing, verify PrintNode/QZTray is running/logged in.
